In the beginning
- In 2008 the hospital inaugurated a 25 member committee headed by Dr. Osawe Osayande, with the mandate to review protocols of those who want to conduct research.
- In 2013 a training was organized by NHREC where we were formally given permission to review protocols.
- FMoH sent delegations to all health institution in Kogi State and found out that only FTH Lokoja that has the capacity to review protocols for those that want to conduct research.
- To date FTH Lokoja have reviewed over 110 protocols among which is 50 postgraduate medical doctors protocols.
- We have also reviewed protocols for PHD, MSc, International multi-Centre studies like ASOS and recently the world wide Parkinson studies.
- From these protocols reviewed, the hospital has produced more than 10 Postgraduate Medical fellows.
Presently
- In recent times under the able leadership of Dr. Kola Adaranijo, online training was conducted for everybody in the ethical review committee as prescribed by NHREC.
- Also the acceptable condition of membership has been fulfilled
- In December 2019, the hospital organized a research awareness workshop on how to carryout statistical analysis using STATA.
- And this was well attended by participant from outside Kogi state, NGO from Sudan, UNN, Irrua Specialist hospital, NAFDAC.
- When the Ethical Review community is fully ready, it will be able to attract research grants to the hospital.
