About Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy is a healthcare practice that helps people of all ages for the purpose of restoring, maintaining and maximizing their strength, movement and overall well-being. It is engaged through physical examination, diagnosis, patient education, physical intervention, rehabilitation, prevention and health promotion.
Treatment is based on movement, manual therapy, physical agents and therapeutic modalities rather than by drugs or surgery. Physiotherapy profession is regulated by The Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB).
About the Department
The department started at about the same time FMC Lokoja was created in the year 2000. It was started as a unit and headed by PT Eniolorunda T. N (Mrs)(Retired). It has since grown to a full department under the Clinical Services of the hospital. The department renders clinical services covering the inpatient and outpatient sections with various clinical specialties with dedicated Physiotherapists.

Important notes
- The department has a good alliance with other departments within the hospital. One is the joint CLUBFOOT Clinic run with Department of Orthopaedic Surgery on Thursdays at the Plaster Room.
- Physiotherapy is classified as a first contact practice, so, clients may seek direct physiotherapy care but should know that they may be referred to GOPD and other units as deemed necessary.
- Clients referred for outpatient physiotherapy treatment are seen on appointment booked at the outpatient clinic. So, anyone who is unable to attend the clinic on the day given should endeavor to come back to re-book the appointment.
- Clients are also expected to pay the prescribed fees at the revenue before services are rendered.
